Sanitary quality of maize (corn) & Mycotoxins

Research Programmes

Visual readings on maize (corn) ears

Sanitary analysis of maize (corn) grains

Dosages of mycotoxins

Analysis methods for visual readings of the intensity of attack on maize (corn) ears (Ear Visual)

These readings were taken in the field, at the time of harvesting. The tests were harvested manually. The inoculated ears of maize (corn) and control ears from a microplot were placed next to each other at the end of the line.

Ear Visual Calculations

The Ear Visual reading, expressed as a mark out of 100, is reached in the following way:

Fusarium Liseola - 1st reading

Note 2
Note 6

Fusarium graminearum - 1st reading

Note 5
Note 7
Note 9

For example

In the case of a line for which the following results are found:

Ears with class 1 (Tolerant) readings: 65%
Ears with class 2 (Fairly sensitive) readings: 25%
Ears with class 3 (Sensitive) readings: 10%

Ear Visual mark : 25 + 10 = 35

Interpreting the data

An interpretation chart for each type of Fusarium and treatment is used to interpret the Ear Visual results found on harvesting:
