Sunflower is a key player on the market for oil grain and strong oils. In Europe, it accounts for 25% of the seed market and 50% of the food oil market.

Sunflower is one of the key crops for a farm because it has many advantages. This hardy crop adapts well to water-deficit conditions and poor soils and does very well with only moderate provision of water. What is more, it requires relatively little maintenance. Lastly, its extensive flowering enhances biodiversity.

With thirty years' worth of real genetic advances, disease tolerance and oil quality has improved and applications have become increasingly diversified.
