The traceability of in-field seed production

Each bag of seed has a blue label which contains the seed's history. This label is issued to the seed producer under the authority of the Official Controle Department (S.O.C.) of the Ministry of l'Agriculture providing the first level of certification.

The French (C.E.E.) certification system implemented by the SOC is by far the most stringent on the international market and is based on the OECD system.

Agri Confiance

The SOC standard provides the first level of traceability for batch origins; records made as part of the Agriconfiance® (AFNOR NF V01-005) procedure add another. This quality certification was set up by Maïsadour Semences in 1997.

It provides guarantees as to the means used to achieve the results certified by the SOC standard. By using this approach, Maïsadour Semences makes a serious commitment to compliance with the public's new expectations of agriculture.

Example of a SOC certificate

For each production field, the grower and the cooperative technician describe all the growing operations: sowing dates, inputs, treatments used, growth stage monitoring, and so on. The SOC labels for the basic seeds sown to create the hybrid which is marketed are also kept.

This enables seed history to be traced back to the basic seed and from there to the pre-basic seed. The same information on the technical trajectory can be consulted at each stage of production. These documents are available and can be viewed in the context of external audits.
