RAPSODYN is a rape seed research project in within the Green Biotechnology Scientific Interest Group involving French public organisations and the seed industry, including Maïsadour. The project has expanded to include cooperation with Germany, who is developing similar projects, such as on prebreed yield.
RAPSODYN is geared toward improving the production of oil per hectare and maintaining yield stability in contrasting environments, while reducing the nitrogen supply during the crop cycle.
The project will pave the way for new technologies (molecular markets, traits, and phenotypes) to be developed, along with new genetic sources that will be used in breeding programmes to develop new varieties that meet the needs of sustainable development.
For farmers, the goal is to improve the efficiency of nitrogen nutrition for rape seed, with estimated cost savings of €32/ha at an equal yield, if the efficiency of the nitrogen is increased by 25%.
RAPSODYN is an eight-year programme with a budget of €20 million.
Maïsadour Semences is an active partner, having including RAPSODYN in its hybrid rape breeding programme.

The French project for maize crop amelioration « Amaizing », coordinated by Inra (National Institute for Agronomical Research) has been officially inaugurated on November 9th ,2011. This research program aim to develop necessary technologies for breeding new hybrids in order to give solutions to farmers for next decades.
Four axes will be defined: better valorisation of water, of azote, resistance to cold (to be able to move forward sowing date and to avoid thereby the periods of water deficit) and understanding of the phenomenon of hybrid’s vigor.
This project involves 13 research laboratories, 2 technical institutes, 7 cooperative groups and seed companies and 2 biotech companies. The entire project represents a total investment of 27,5 million euros for 8 years.
Maïsadour Semences takes part in this project in equal part with other seed companies; we are represented by Mr. Antoine Gaillard who is a Member of Executive Border and person in charge of one of 9 Workpackages of the project. His role is to ensure the dissemination, technology transfer and training to different public (broad audience, farmers, scientists and professionals, students). Maïsadour Semences will realize for the project some operational genotype and phenotype experimentations.
2 similar projects are in progress for rape and sunflower.
